Casian Pink

A Caspian Pink tomato begins to ripen as the summer season continues. Caspian Pinks are a Russian heirloom variety from an area between the Caspian and Black Seas. The are large, pink beefsteak fruits averaging 10 to 12 ounces. Their sweet yet rich flavor is outstanding and has prompted some tasters to compare to it to Brandywine.

Checking for duds

Evan and Rachel use flashlights to check a batch of duck eggs for duds.
To encourage upward growth we wrapped the bean vines around a support structure and tied it with green tape.

A fleet of minions rolled in as if preparing for some epic
battle.

At the farm

Never thought I'd be blogging...today is day 13 of my internship here at Boondockers Farm in Creswell Oregon. Its a nice day, about 82 degrees. I've had a very educational experience here so far, yesterday I planted some dragons tongue beans which I've never heard of!... so cool. I've also learned a great deal about tomatoes and how to distinguish the different varieties by checking the leaf shape and flower pattern. Evan gave me a master list of literally thousands of different tomatoes species to study!... very interesting! Chocolate stripe and Purple are two varieties I can't wait to try.
